Swim Practice Info

Good Morning Everyone! I believe most of you received the email regarding practice times, but just a reminder:

Based on pool times we could get and how things have worked out they situation will be as followed:

• Mondays and Wednesdays 6:45-8:30 (come dressed and ready for dry land BEFORE practice)
• Tuesday and Thursdays: 7:15-8:30
• No practice Friday

In addition we will be swimming mixed with Clarke and ABSC due to the lack of lane space and the size of our team. (good problem to have)  Students will be grouped some days by ability and others we will be by team. We will all be co-coaching amongst the teams on mixed days so that swimmers can get the best out of the season and develop their abilities. 

If you have any concerns please feel free to contact Coach Springstead, but I think that it will work out great!

Swim schedule has been posted on the website.  Results and Meet Summaries will be added as the season progresses

Also, please have your student email Coach Springstead their phone number if they have not done so.  This is for group texts so everyone can be reminded and updated regarding dry land, practices and meets. Coach Springstead's email is bcspring@uga.edu.

Water Warriors - Get Ready To Go For The GOLD!!

OK, maybe I am just still pumped up about the USA Olympic Swim Team, but who isn't!! This is going to be a fantastic year for swimming.  Even though no medals distributed this year will have any real gold in them, I have no doubt that all the swimmers and divers are destined for greatness!!

I wanted to make sure everyone knows about tomorrow's (Wednesday, August 24th) interest meeting for the kids to try to attend.  The new coach, Brenna Springstead and Athletic Director, Kevin Yancey will both be there with good information.  Kids should know about it because it has been on morning announcements this week.

It is at 3:45 in the cafeteria.

Sept. 11th will be an important date to remember!  As that will be suit fitting and sign up.  Season starts October 17th.

Please pass this along to anyone you think may be interested in swimming or diving this year!  Spread the word!!  Any 8th graders as well!!  Going to be a great season!! Coach Springstead (bio coming soon) is very excited!!!

State Meet Information

DIVERS-

Unfortunately, you all dive on the Thursday before the swimmers arrive (girls to dive first this year). A small group--but a strong group! Coach Fennelly will be there, on deck..and Coach Havick will be there as well.

(***Coach Havick, please meet the divers and Jonathan at 7am in order to sign their dive sheets (required before they can dive) and to get the deck pass to Jonathan so he may coach from the pool deck. If you need each other's cells again, let me know). Ginny, Katie, Jack and Adam--well done. Though the rest of the team is not in the bleachers this day, they are with you in thought! I know you all will support Adam as he joins this group of Water Warrior divers...as Adam is our one returning male diver for next year. Jack, good luck! Congrats to you as you finish your fourth year at state.

SWIMMERS-

You all swim on Friday. It is a long, long day. Each of you should know your event and Coach Havick will be there to help. Veteran state swimmwers, please help our "first time" swimmers...cheering each other on. OCHS has always been a proud "show" and I know will represent OCHS with style and good attitude! "Congrats" to our senior swimmers here again at state, Robert Wylie and Caroline Henning. Robert, good luck as you continue your diving in college; you have been an amazing asset to our team all four years on Varsity. Caroline, thank you for your four years of wonderful leadership and support. We are so glad you are here to be at the state meet again!

**Saturday are the finals. Warm ups begin at 11am! Again, if you are in the finals, please be sure you are ON TIME!

INFO TO KNOW---

If you have not reserved a hotel room for the night before the meets, PLEASE remember that Atlanta has WAY more traffic than Oconee! Give yourself time to arrive ON TIME!

Warm ups are at 7:00AM--EARLY!!!!!

ATHLETES- you must enter at the SIDE DOOR of the Georgia Tech pool (on Tech parkway), NOT the front entrance to the sports complex, on the morning of the meet to get your ATHLETE BADGE for entry! It is tricky, if you have not been there before.

Please take some snacks for you (and to share). Again, it is a long day and you need to stay hydrated and nourished.

PLEASE, wear your team warm ups/suits. WE ARE the WATER WARRIORS! Look for one another as teams all sit together in designated areas.

PARENTS-you will enter at the front entrance. There is a $12/day fee. (have cash--I am not sure if they take anything else at the door)

Parking is also tricky. There is a lot by the complex and across the street. There is also a charge for that ($10/day, I think). Cash, as well.

There is concession in a small dining area at the complex. There will also be state apparel to purchase, as well as swim/dive gear.

Team note-If you would like to gather after the meet for a team meal, please be sure you make arrangements before you leave the pool. In past years, the team has gathered at close-by restaurants to celebrate!

Reminder-Year End Awards Banquet is Thursday, Feb. 18 at 6pm at the Civic Center.

Also-be sure to let your teachers know which day you will be gone. Your absence is "excused"--but you are still responsible for the work for that day!😉

*Coach Havick will also give your names to the attendance office.

Water Warrior Banquet - Thursday (2/18)

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 18, is our 2015-2016 YEAR END BANQUET!!!

                OCONEE CIVIC CENTER at 6pm

ALL TEAM MEMBERS (JV and Varsity) ARE INVITED---and will be recognized in some way...

We will take this night to gather, eat, and recognize all those on the team-for participation and some awards. The whole evening should not last more than about 2 hours.

 The Booster team will provide the chicken, breads, a cake and cookies as well as the beverages, and the paper goods and decorations.

Thinking of how to spend your day on Saturday, January 16?

Well, how about coming to cheer on you favorite swimmer or diver?

Our Invitational Meet will begin at 11am (warm ups between 9am-11am)--and will run until about 7pm at UGA's Ramsey Center.

Please, if you have not already done so, sign up to help volunteer--we still need help. And, also review the snack sign up--as we will have hungry people ALL DAY LONG!!!! (Concession will be available).

Note that this meet, there is a charge for entry - Adults -$5; Students-$3
